Los Lobos, which has been entertaining audiences with a wide-ranging repertoire for more than 50 years, will bring that exciting sound to Soaring Eagle Casino at 8 p.m. Friday, April 5, along with Los Lonely Boys.
The band’s music embodies the idea of America as a cultural melting pot, combining styles like son jarocho, norteño, Tejano, folk, country, doo-wop, soul, R&B, rock ’n’ roll and punk.
Los Lobos began gigging parties and restaurants in the early 1970s. Original lineup David Hidalgo (vocals, guitar, and pretty much anything with strings), Louie Perez (drums, vocals, guitar), Cesar Rosas (vocals, guitar), and Conrad Lozano (bass, vocals, guitarrón) was eventually joined by saxophonist Steve Berlin.

The group won its first Grammy for Best Mexican-American Performance for “Anselma” from its 1983 EP “And a Time to Dance.” A year later, the group released its full-length, major-label debut, “How Will the Wolf Survive?” a sensation that helped Los Lobos tie with Bruce Springsteen as Rolling Stone’s Artist of the Year.
Two years later, when the movie “La Bamba” opened, the quintet’s cover of Richie Valens’ signature song topped the charts in the U.S. and the U.K. Since then, Los Lobos has continued to deliver daring and diverse albums.
Also on the bill is the San Angelo Texas trio Lonely Boys — Henry Garza (vocals, guitar), Jojo Garza (bass, vocals), and drummer Ringo Garza. Los Lonely Boys has been on the scene since the mid-1990s, reaching platinum status in their recording career and earning a Grammy Award.
