Two state troopers were shot on West Church Street in Fairchance, Fayette County, on Friday night.The shooting occurred at approximately 8:13 p.m.One trooper was life-flighted to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown and the second was taken by ambulance to Uniontown Hospital. The trooper taken to Uniontown hospital was shot in the left hand and has since been released.The trooper life-flighted to Ruby Memorial Hospital underwent surgery after being shot in the abdomen. At last check, the trooper was in critical condition but has a good prognosis and is expected to recover.The identities of the state troopers have not been released due to the fact that the investigation is still ongoing, officials said.According to officials, the troopers were pursuing an ongoing burglary investigation. Clarence Belsar, 26, of Fairchance, was trying to sell a PlayStation console on Facebook which police believe was stolen during a recent burglary.The state troopers approached Belsar, but he began walking away from them after ignoring commands to stop. The troopers physically tried to restrain him and a struggle ensued as they attempted to place him under arrest.Officials said the investigation currently shows that one gunshot was fired by Belsar during the struggle. The gunshot hit both troopers.Multiple innocent bystanders on the scene attempted to administer first aid to the injured troopers, officials said.Belsar was pronounced dead at the scene and died as a result of sustaining multiple gunshot wounds, which officials said were fired by troopers.Officials confirmed Belsar had a criminal record and also was a reporter for Megan's Law.Play the video above to watch the full press conference held by State Police Saturday morning regarding the shooting.
